But they never stated the time. When the date finally appeared, they stated 17 June 2008, which is now... They didn't mention that they'd start counting at 17:00 GMT, which would be 10:00 for their servers. This means thousands of people will go to the site, see no download button, and leave. They won't go back to check. Because they didn't state the time, they've thrown away their chance of breaking the record.
If they still break the record I would be very surprised.
Firefox, next time use a time zone that won't put the day part of your "Download Day" over the Pacific Ocean.
I understand that 24 hours will put "Day" everywhere, but the greater part of the world can only start downloading on the 18th, which defeats the purpose of having it on an anniversary.
Oh well. Everyone needs to screw up at least once...
To see the launch time in your time zone, go here, then go here to download.

The site was down this morning when I tried to download, that was just after 8'O clock, after 9'O clock I only managed to find a Firefox 2.0.1.4 (or was it Firefox 2.0.0.14?) download button. An hour later I tried again but the download kept on failing.
ReplyDeleteI've finally managed to get my hands on a working installation of FF3 and absolutely love it, so far it's not crashing my computer from excessive memory usage due to memory leaks, will leave it open tonight and see if my computer is still running by tomorrow morning.
